Central Coast Football are pleased to announce that as of Thursday the 23rd August 2007, Football NSW have approved our application for "Thunder" to contest in Northern NSW Football Youth Leagues in the 2008 season.  Thunder is the brand name given to Central Coast Football's new player development program which underpins the Central Coast Lightning Football Club Pty Ltd. It's inception will provide addition ongoing player pathways for Central Coast Player aged 11 - 15 for boys and 12 - 16 for girls.

The Football NSW decision culminates a considerable amount of work by Central Coast Football over the past 2 years to have this program implemented as an extension to the highly successful Lightning program currently contesting - Metropolitan Representative Leagues, Youth Super League, Men's Super League, Arrive Alive Girls Premier Youth League and the Arrive Alive Women's Premier League.

Thunder will be a great assistance in closing the divide between club and representative football in the following age groups:

  • Under 11 Boys (Born in 1997) - 2 x Thunder Squads. Players identified into this program will register and play week to week as club players, but work within the Thunder Program once per week, and play development games on a monthly basis.
  • Under 12 Boys (Born in 1996) - 1 x Thunder Squad. Like the Under 11 program these will be club registered players, who will work in the Thunder program once weekly and play as a squad on a monthly basis against select opposition.
  • Under 12 Girls (Born in 1997 / 1996) - 1 x Thunder Squad. As with the boys program, identified players will register and play with their respective club but work withyin the Thunder program once a week and play select games monthly.
  • Under 13 Boys (Born in 1995) - 1 x Thunder Squad. These players will be identified through CCF identification processes and invited into a full-time representative program, representing the Central Coast in the Northern NSW Football's SSI Youth League.
  • Under 14 Boys (Born in 1994) - 1 x Thunder Squad. These players will be identified through CCF identification processes and invited into a full-time representative program, representing the Central Coast in the Northern NSW Football's SSI Youth League.
  • Under 14 Girls (Born in 1994 / 1995) - 1 x Thunder Squad. As with the boys program, identified players will register and play with their respective club but work withyin the Thunder program once a week and play select games monthly.
  • Under 15 Boys (Born in 1993) - 1 x Thunder Squad. These players will be identified through CCF identification processes and invited into a full-time representative program, representing the Central Coast in the Northern NSW Football's SSI Youth League.
  • Under 16 Girls (Born in 1992 / 1993) -  1 x Thunder Squad. These players will be identified through CCF identification processes and invited into a full-time representative program, representing the Central Coast in the Northern NSW Football's SSI Youth League.

Thunder provides Central Coast Football with a unique opportunity to implement potentially the best development structure for young players within NSW. As well as a highly competitive local competition which currently caters for some 14,000 registered participants, and a representative structure for identified players in Football NSW State League competitions, the inception of Thunder will provide for the developing player who has aspirations of reaching a higher level of competitive football. Players develop at different rates, both physically, technically and tactically, many of the players that miss out on securing a position in Central Coast Lightning's Representative Program do so because at the time of identification they are not as yet "Ready!" Thunder will provide additional opportunities to keep players in structured programs with qualified coaches and assist with their step to the next level of competitive football by ensuring they play regularly in a highly competitive league structure working within Central Coast Football's overall development plan.

This coupled with our involvement with the Central Coast Academy of Sport, plus Central Coast Mariners Academy and a direct link as a major feeder club to the Central Coast Mariners Hyundai A-League makes the future prospects of potential elite players much more realistic.

05 May 2009

There have been reports coming in from clubs around the coast about a bag thief targeting sports bags at club grounds. We ask that all precautions be taken, have your team official or other recognised person stay with your bags at all times, secure all valuables or leave them locked in your vehicle if possible. If you see ANYONE that you are unsure of loitering around your belongings, ensure your team official or ground official is advised immediately. Theft is punishable by law, and should the person be apprehended, we ask that all legal processes to take place.
